Privacy Policy

Last updated 20 August 2026. This policy applies to the Cook Journal mobile app and this website.

1. What we collect

To run your account we collect the basics: your email address, and the recipes, photos, ratings and notes you choose to save in Cook Journal. We collect only what is needed to run the app — nothing more.

2. How your recipes are stored

Your recipes are stored on your device, and, if you turn it on, in your private backup so you can move between phones without losing anything. Nobody else can read your recipes unless you use the share button on a specific recipe.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to run the app's core features — saving recipes, syncing your private backup, and showing your version history. We do not use your recipes to train any model, and we do not sell personal data to anyone.

4. Third-party services

Cook Journal's website and app talk to our own existing Cook Journal API to load and save your recipes — we do not run separate, undisclosed backend services, and we do not share your data with advertising networks.

5. Your rights

You can ask to see, export or delete everything we hold about you at any time by writing to hello@cookjournal.app. Deleting your account removes your recipes from our backup; anything already on your device stays there until you remove it yourself.

6. Children's privacy

Cook Journal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you are under 13, please use the app together with a parent or guardian.

7. Changes to this policy

If we make a meaningful change to how we handle your data, we will show a notice in the app before it takes effect.

8. Contact

Questions about your data? Write to hello@cookjournal.app and a human will answer.
